7 brilliant reasons to visit The Medicine Garden this summer

Just 5 minutes off the A3 in Surrey lies a rather special place. The Medicine Garden is an award-winning and breathtakingly beautiful community space for young and old alike. This summer, come and spend a few hours with us. Here’s why…

Free entry every day, all day

We don’t charge a penny. Even parking is free. All we ask is you consider making a donation to The Medicine Garden Foundation in any of the collection boxes dotted around the garden. This money helps us continue to grow and develop the garden.

Holiday activities for kids

We’ve teamed up with entertainers to the stars  Dazzle & Fizz to present 6 weeks of immersive, theatrical shows, including Special Ability Shows for children 3-8 years (cognitive age). Recently featured on the BBC, Dazzle & Fizz have been producing award-winning parties and events since 2010. Take a look at our timetable of shows and book tickets online now.

Playground and 2 acres of garden

Summer hols are the perfect time to get together with people you haven’t seen in a while. Maybe an ante-natal group? Old school friends and their kids? We’re the perfect venue. Two acres of gardens to run around, a playground and a sandpit. Please don’t bring picnics though as we have two wonderful eateries onsite. One of which opens right out onto the garden, so you can keep an eye on the kids whilst they’re having a ball.

Two places to eat

Want a quick bite or a more formal dining experience? We’ve got it covered.  The Garden Pod Café offers a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, salads, cakes and drinks from a vintage Airstream caravan on the decking.  The Hothouse Café, more a restaurant than café, is located in our courtyard and prides itself on sourcing food locally. The Hothouse was recently named one of the best places in Surrey for breakfast.

A riot of colour

Our central flower beds are heaving with 1000s of herbaceous plants and grasses, providing a superb display of colour from early spring to late autumn. Around the perimeter of the garden, we’ve opted for wildflower planting which looks rather lovely against the weathered brickwork. We’re also immensely proud of our ‘espalier’ roses covering the great wall at the top of the garden.

Courtyard of independent shops

If you can bear to tear yourself away from the garden, take a wander through the passageway into our courtyard. This thriving community of small businesses is a world away from your average high street shopping experience. We’ve got a garden shop, a florist, a luxury lifestyle shop, a food studio, a venue space, an interior design shop, a treatment room and a graphic design practice, not to mention an art gallery that’s just been voted the best in Surrey.

Feel good factor

Lots of people ask us why we’re called The Medicine Garden. Are all our plants medicinal? Do we have a doctor in the house? Actually no, we’re called The Medicine Garden because we hope every visit will encourage people to think about the power of nature and inspire them to create a bit of ‘good medicine’ in their own lives. And we certainly need that now more than ever.
