We’re delighted to announce the latest book by author and local historian David Taylor ‘Under The Cedar’ is now available to purchase in The Garden Shop.
David is a historian, lecturer and writer. He has written a number of books and articles on the history of his home town of Cobham. The most recent Under The Cedar is a history of Pyports, home of the Lushington family.
The book draws heavily upon descriptions of Cobham and its people found in the Lushington family’s letters and diaries. Vernon Lushington moved within the intellectual aristocracy of the nineteenth century, including many of the well-known writers, artists and musicians of his day. It was he who famously introduced Edward Burne Jones to Dante Gabriel Rossetti – a meeting which led to the second phase of the Pre-Raphaelite movement.
Proceeds from the sale of Under The Cedar will go to the Surrey History Trust, which seeks to support the important work of the Surrey History Centre in acquiring, preserving and making accessible records relating to the history of the county.
